Categoreal Scheme vs. Axiomatic

Salaam to Dr. Choudhary and David and everyone

Axioms are used with a set of systemic objects e.g. predicates Booleans and inferences to compose larger and larger statements from smaller atomic finite set of Axioms, the latter as smallest atomic unit of truth. And then focus on examining if these larger and more complex statements are true or false.

Alfred North Whitehead studied the history of European philosophy, its achievements and failures, and endeavoured to replace the concept of axioms with something else, that did not require to be true or false.

Example in our times is the axiomatized theory of Evolution. It is now known the processes of evolution shaped life, therefore the theory of Evolution is proved to be correct. However it is also well known that not all processes of life were evolved, and there is a problem! The latter means theory of Evolution is  incorrect and therefore false i.e. disproved!

Then the proponents of theory of Evolution argue by all means possible, at times on thin ice, to refute the lack of evolved processes in life, to make sure the axiomatic theory of Evolution is 100% intact insofar as 100% truth, thus we plunge into classical European failure of philosophical thought which we all know as Dark Ages.

Categoreal Scheme does not require atomic statements i.e. axioms to be either true or false.

Categoreal Scheme provides a blueprint, for some entity, to be described in most general possible forms and ways.

An actual entity is then the instantiation of a particular category, which describes quite well to some gradation of competence.

The thinker of Categoreal Schemerestricts‘ the thoughts to the encapsulated blueprint within the category and investigates which actual entities fit the blueprint of the category and which do not, as opposed to verify truth and veracity of statements.

Restriction of thoughts are then accompanied by imaginative leap which are something other than thoughts and rational, and thus imagine to expand the boundaries of mentation limited by the restriction of thoughts to the blueprint of the category.

Example: Category of Car:

i. Self-propelled

ii. Contains the energy for motion

iii. Has cavity and openings (doors) to carry load

iv. Roves on particular devices pressing against the ground (wheels)

Car is not true or false! Its blueprints are not concerned about truth.

However if we restrict our thoughts to this Category of Car we quickly notice that there are many instantiations of this category e.g. GMC truck, BMW and so on.

And yet we also discover that there are entities that do not exactly instatiate the category of car e.g. motorcycle or sail-boat. We need to find those misfits other Categoreal Schemes. Motorcycle or sail-boat does not make Category of Car false! BMW does not make the Category of Car true!

Example: Category of Evolution:

i. Every organism has a predecessor

ii. Every organism mutates to a new version slightly different

iii. Every organism mutates innovations due to environmental pressures

iv. Every organism loses innovations of iii if no longer required

v. ii – iv are gradual

We restrict our thoughts to viruses and clearly see them as instantiation of Category of Evolution. There is no truth or falsehood about the Category itself or about the virus, it is about instantiation and fitting the blueprint.

We loosen up the restrictions of our thoughts to plants and birds and see clearly that that they are instantiation of Category of Evolution.

However there is no truth or falsehood about any of it, God included. Category of Evolution does not make Category of God false, and vice-a-versa.

Then we restrict our thoughts to flowering plants and we find out that flowers do not fit the blueprint of the Category of Evolution!

This lack of instantiation does not have any truth or falsehood about the Category of Evolution. Perhaps flowering plants require a new Categoreal Scheme to fit better blueprints.

Imagination: Categoreal Scheme is free of meaning and application if the restriction of thoughts to its blueprint is not billowed at by the torrents of imagination! It is the very tumults of an imaginative mind that fuels the meaning and progress of Categoreal Scheme.

Alfred North Whitehead, may his voyage be eased and beautiful, innovated/promoted Categoreal Scheme to do away with absurd fallacies and even more absurd proofs! Hence Dark Ages which is upon us in so called modern times.

As a part of research and learning to study the recent post by Dr. Choudhary, I recommend that we also read Process and Reality:

This in particular contains his concepts and definitions.

This work being one of the most profound achievements of Western thought, has gone completely forsaken, to the point that some American university faculties were telling me that there is almost an unspoken ban on this book for teaching and research.

We need to caution against reading and digesting RETAIL spirituality and philosophical thought i.e. reading materials sold in large quantities by American corporate publishers.

We need to read all works of all sorts by all authors to find the best of thoughts, not what board of directors of publishing companies in US consider as Western thought and philosophy.

I look forward to reading Dr. Choudary work and will make comments in coming days, much appreciate his sharing.

Tafsir (Exegesis) 28:83. As for that realm in the hereafter, We grant it [only] to those

The Muslim, the Christian and the Jew today yearn to lead and subjugate the servants of Allah under the banner of their religion or byproducts of their societies e.g. democracy or capitalism or racial supremacy. None of that is in congruence with Abrahamic faith and traditions of their prophets.

 

28:83 As for Ka(you) La(that, distant) realm in the hereafter, We grant it [only] to those who do not seek to exalt themselves on earth, nor yet to spread corruption: for the future belongs to the God-conscious.

تِلْكَ الدَّارُ الْآخِرَةُ نَجْعَلُهَا لِلَّذِينَ لَا يُرِيدُونَ عُلُوًّا فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَا فَسَادًا وَالْعَاقِبَةُ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ

Lexicon:

عُلُوًّا

To have the upper-hand over the people and over the planet (since the verse  mentions to be exalted over the earth).

Examples:

Yearning to be the boss: being the Imam in the mosque, desiring to be the leader, being a governor, a politician.

Wearing a beard or a gown-uniform, ceremonial to create prestige for people to follow you, to listen to you, to do your bidding.

As for the planet, to change her ecological equilibrium and modify her biological systems in order to provide luxuries and excessive consumption or to gain control over people e.g. diverting rivers.

Subjugating people: forcing people to believe or behave certain ways, your ways, under the auspicious of religious guidelines or  democratic ideals but in reality it is nothing but subjugating people to your will.

Fame: yearning to be popular and loved and under the limelight in front of the microphone, rubbing shoulders with the governors and the rich, yearning to be heard and followed.

Supremacy: believing that you are better than others, by your race or religious beliefs or nationality or ethnicity.

Imam Ali said:

Indeed a man is conceited (‘Ujb) even about his shoelace being better than his companion’s shoelace (Translation?)

تفسير تفسير الهدايه إلى بلوغ النهايه/ مكي بن أبي طالب (ت 437 هـ)

وروي عن علي رضي الله عنه أنه قال: إن الرجل ليعجبه من شراك نعله أن يكون أجود من شراك صاحبه، فيدخل في قوله: { تِلْكَ ٱلدَّارُ ٱلآخِرَةُ }.

 

فَسَادًا

Unlawful wealth/provision obtained by hoarding other people’s belongings.

Examples:

Stock Markets: to create phony corporations and securities to cheat the public to invest in paper companies with little economic value.

Military threat to remove the natural resources of other nations:  under the democratic sentiments, or non-existing religious obligations.

Limiting access to natural resources: waging wars for oil or water or sea ports or access to mines.

Limiting access to education: destroying educational infrastructure of nations in order to rob their wealth by easier subjugation.

Nepotism: Under the banner of race or religion or democracy or ideology of any kind to form closed societies to ban others from gaining their fair share.

 

Ti-L-Ka

تِلْكَ

Ti: “This” pointing at something

L: Distance making Ti (This) into That over there or afar

Ka: You i.e. Muhammad (peace be upon).

This verse does not read:

The realm in the hereafter, We grant it [only] to those who do not..

الدَّارُ الْآخِرَةُ نَجْعَلُهَا لِلَّذِينَ لَا يُرِيدُونَ عُلُوًّا

It has that Ti-L-Ka at the very beginning because the Prophet is SEEING that realm and her inhabitants, the Arabic verse is rendering an image of that seeing. For that matter some of us could view a visual-sliver of that seeing.

This is not about knowledge this is about seeing.

Ka (you, Muhammad) is a residual presence shared with some of you, in this case a Seer Residual Presence to see the other realm and her inhabitants.

To see to report back to others: subjugating people and taking their wealth for sure divert your voyage to that habitation in the other realm.

You could believe and cover your face and head any which way or say some Arabic words here and there, or chant something or make claims to be the chosen of the God, but you will not have any place in Hereafter, since you subjugate people to your will to have the upper-hand over them.

Reply to Shakir on Qidam: Earth

Shakir had asked:

2. What could be the wisdom to place us in this marvelous planet earth? We could still be staying in Qidam, loving Allah or other than Allah being in there! Why this short life span upon this planet?

 

Shakir the answer to this question is right on your body: hold your arms out! These are the arms/hands of a predator, focused on with two frontal looking eyes again suitable for predation. We are born to be killers:

 

2:30 AND LO!  Thy Sustainer said unto the angels: “Behold, I am about to establish upon earth one who shall inherit it.”They said: “Wilt Thou place on it such as will spread corruption thereon and shed blood

وَإِذْ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلْمَلاَئِكَةِ إِنِّي جَاعِلٌ فِي الأَرْضِ خَلِيفَةً قَالُواْ أَتَجْعَلُ فِيهَا مَن يُفْسِدُ فِيهَا وَيَسْفِكُ الدِّمَاء

 

Therefore we are placed here on this earth to decay to evanesce, so all that is NOT-YOU shall decay i.e. carnal parts of the body and corrupted mental proclivities to evil:

55:26 All that lives on her (Earth) is evanescent

كُلُّ مَنْ عَلَيْهَا فَانٍ

For that matter why the life on this earth is so short; we cocoon here twice; once in mother’s womb, and once in our graves to pass twice through the singularity of death, to finally appear in the other realm so that all that was NOT-YOU is left behind on this planet! What passes through the singularity of death is then only YOU, the spiritual ancient phototropic being from the habitat of Qidam.

You wrote earlier:

In other words , are Qidam, Akhirah, Azal the same terms?

Per Nasafi’s writings, there are only 2 realms, spiritual realm (Malakut) and this world (Mulk). Qidam, Akhirah, Azal are the same, however the way we voyage causes discernment. Different people, different experiences might cause different views.

To understand their sameness we could rely on the grammar of the Qur’an to investigate :

This verse is about future, Akhira, the Hereafter, the other world, notice “Allah SAID to Jesus”, in past tense!

5:116 And Allah SAID: O Jesus, son of Mary! Did you say to men, `Worship me and my mother as deities beside God’?” [Jesus] answered: “Limitless art Thou in Thy glory! It would not have been possible for me to say what I had no right to [say]! Had I said this, Thou wouldst indeed have known it! Thou knowest all that is within myself, whereas I know not what is in Thy Self. Verily, it is Thou alone who fully knowest all the things that are beyond the reach of a created being’s perception.

وَإِذْ قَالَ اللّهُ يَا عِيسَى ابْنَ مَرْيَمَ أَأَنتَ قُلتَ لِلنَّاسِ اتَّخِذُونِي وَأُمِّيَ إِلَـهَيْنِ مِن دُونِ اللّهِ قَالَ سُبْحَانَكَ مَا يَكُونُ لِي أَنْ أَقُولَ مَا لَيْسَ لِي بِحَقٍّ إِن كُنتُ قُلْتُهُ فَقَدْ عَلِمْتَهُ تَعْلَمُ مَا فِي نَفْسِي وَلاَ أَعْلَمُ مَا فِي نَفْسِكَ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ عَلاَّمُ الْغُيُوبِ

Akhira and Qidam in past tense…

What does that mean? Past tense is free of potentialities, it is free of probabilities, it happened a certain way and finished that one way. Any realm free of potentiality and probability therefore has the texture of experience of past tense! Akhira has no potentialities, therefore it has the feel of past tense, while it is still the future for us now.

Most Beloved of Deeds

The Prophet was asked: What are the deeds most loved by Allah?

The Prophet replied: The most persistent, even if little!

Dara: There are people who think that praying all night is the right way to worship, and they do so for Ramadan or maybe a couple of more nights  here and there, and then they sleep all nights for the rest of the year. That is not a good form for deeds. It is better if you prayed a little but every night, a few minutes, Ramadan or not!

Some other people think that reading a lot of spiritual books is great deed, but it is not! Read a few words, yet understand and practice their truths and apply everyday, than read a lot of books without understanding and without practicing. Read one Hadith or one Aya, understand and practice, that is most loved by Allah, than memorizing the entire Qur’an and books of Hadith with little understanding and no deployment in daily life.

Some people think that fasting a lot is great, but it is better to eat lesser portions at each meal, avoid luxury foods that were obtained by warring and genocide of farmers abroad.

We all love to be the strongest the best the richest the most knowledgeable the most famous … the most this and the most that, but Allah does not love any of that. These are merely our desires, nothing of Allah’s love.

Instead Allah loves your deeds that are persistent and continual, should they be tiny deeds or insignificant in people’s judgement, but truly large for Allah.

Qidam and Judeo-Christian views

Salaam to Shakir and Salaam to Everyone

It is of paramount importance to cognize that life is ancient! That term ancient in terminologies of Muslims and Sufis called Qidam or Qadim, one of the Divine Names and Attributes of Allah. In language of modern English we coin Qidam as Infinite-Past or Deep-Past.

Fundamentalists of Judeo-Christians view the time within the range of the Jewish calendar of about 7,000 years.

The most significant discovery of Darwin was the age of life: ranges in 100s of millions to even billions of years!

The fundamentalist Christians of his time could not accept Darwin’s theories and discoveries about life, due to their dogmatic view of Jewish calendar being about 7,000 years old. To them accepting Darwin’s theory and scientific evidence meant God was wrong. We hear that today from Right-wing Christians in USA and still amongst some Jews.

The most important pillar of Sufi metaphysics is that life is from infinite past! Humans originated from infinite past.

There are two ways of understanding scriptures:

  1. Interpretation: Scripture interprets the cosmos and life, the believers read the words of scriptures and try to match their meanings to the surrounding world and life. This leads to what we now know as Dark Ages which cloaked Europe for centuries.
  2. Ishara (Pointing): The cosmos and life interpret the words of scripture! The reversal is the enlightenment which Interpretation falls short providing.

I might add to the above that Interpretation without placing limits for the words in scriptures occludes the light and hence the dark times that befall the believers. Interpretation used in moderation is just fine, but limiting.

Therefore the most correct way I know of reading scripture e.g. Qur’an, per Qur’an’s own guidelines, is to use the cosmos and life within us to interpret the Divine Words:

41:53 In time We (Allah) shall make them fully understand Our Signs in the utmost horizons [of the universe] and within their own ­Selves, so that it will become clear unto them that this [revelation] is indeed the truth. [Still,] is it not enough [for them to know] that thy Sustainer is witness unto everything?

سَنُرِيهِمْ آيَاتِنَا فِي الْآفَاقِ وَفِي أَنفُسِهِمْ حَتَّى يَتَبَيَّنَ لَهُمْ أَنَّهُ الْحَقُّ أَوَلَمْ يَكْفِ بِرَبِّكَ أَنَّهُ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ شَهِيدٌ

Therefore let’s make Ishara i.e. use the cosmos and what we know of the life to point at the scripture’s words:

Given the life-time of radioactive Carbon and given the molecular commonality of genomes we can point at the words in scriptures that life is infinitely old, Human is from deep infinite past.

 

Equipped with the latter understanding we can now cognize the concept of Qidam i.e. the infinite past and history of Humanity in that infinite range of time or timeless-ness.

The latter is a fundamental area of research and understanding amongst the Sufis.

Ma’rifa (Noesis) of Supplication: معرفة الدعاء

Ma’rifa 1.

When Allah wills to respond to a servant (hear a servant), gives him permission to make Du’a (Supplication) , said the Prophet.

3156- إذا أراد الله أن يستجيب لعبد أذن له في الدعاء.
(الديلمي عن ابن عمر).

 

In other words due to unital nature of Tauhid (Divine Oneness) no mind or heart could ever fathom a supplication since the Oneness does not allow any other mind or intellect or spirit to near or to approach.

But Allah gives the servant the ability to make supplication; in other words the supplicant does not commence the supplication it is Allah who commences any and all supplications. Supplicant is secondary, though to our Nafs (Self) ambiguously seems that the Self is the supplicant commencing the supplication while Allah is secondary to respond.

 

Ishara 1.

A plant situated in darkness has no particular direction to direct its growth. Now shines the light, the plant grows and moves towards the light. Allah is the light and you are the plant in darkness, when you move towards the light i.e. in supplication, the light had shone first, you supplicate second!

It is absurd that plant in darkness could ignite any light! Similarly it is absurd that you are supplicating  in and of your Self, it was Allah who called upon you first, you reacted and that reaction formed the supplication. Supplications are byproducts of Allah fulfilling the servants.

For whom the supplication has commenced, (already) gates of fulfillment had had opened for, said the Prophet.

supplication

 

Ma’rifa 2.

The provision is not diminished by disobedience, and also not increased by good deeds, yet the forsaking of supplication is a form of disobedience! said the Prophet.

1999- إن الرزق لا تنقصه المعصية، ولا تزيده الحسنة، وترك الدعاء معصية

Your provisions, length of life, happiness or sorrows, gain and loss, health and illness, are all Primordial Decisions set in Azal (Sempiternity), and this life an investigation of such infinite past decisions, like unto a motion picture enacting dramatizing a historical event.

The Prophet explains why sometimes the most criminal are the richest and most affluent, yet the most pious the poorest the weakest, not always true though, but explains that Nafs (Self) commands you to do good so you might get more rewards in terms of daily provisions, and that is not always true, most times false.

The Prophet continues with an advice to avoid being a hapless fatalist, that in spite of the said earlier claims the servant should be supplicating often.

 

Adab (Etiquette) of Supplication

You could easily derive the circumstances of life that are prerequisite for a properly performed supplication:

  1. Proper language to speak during the good times and hard times
  2. Attention to orphans in you community and nationwide in your country
  3. Urging to feed the people at difficult times
  4. Avoid hoarding other people’s inheritance e.g. family members, wealth of other nations by perpetual greed and warring
  5. Controlling one’s infatuations and emotions for accumulations (of all kinds)

89:15 BUT AS FOR man,  whenever his Sustainer tries him by His generosity and by letting him enjoy a life of ease, he says, “My Sustainer has been [justly] generous towards me”;

فَأَمَّا الْإِنسَانُ إِذَا مَا ابْتَلَاهُ رَبُّهُ فَأَكْرَمَهُ وَنَعَّمَهُ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّي أَكْرَمَنِ

 

89:16 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, “My Sustainer has disgraced me!”

وَأَمَّا إِذَا مَا ابْتَلَاهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيْهِ رِزْقَهُ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّي أَهَانَنِ

 

89:17 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan,

كَلَّا بَل لَّا تُكْرِمُونَ الْيَتِيمَ

 

89:18 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy,

وَلَا تَحَاضُّونَ عَلَى طَعَامِ الْمِسْكِينِ

 

89:19 and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed,

وَتَأْكُلُونَ التُّرَاثَ أَكْلًا لَّمًّا

 

89:20 and you love wealth with boundless love!

وَتُحِبُّونَ الْمَالَ حُبًّا جَمًّا

Long Supplications

41:51 And, too, when We bestow Our blessings upon man, he tends to turn aside and keep aloof [from remembering Us]; but as soon as evil fortune touches him, he is full of LENGTHY prayers!

وَإِذَا أَنْعَمْنَا عَلَى الْإِنسَانِ أَعْرَضَ وَنَأى بِجَانِبِهِ وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ الشَّرُّ فَذُو دُعَاء عَرِيضٍ

 

This is a problem, lack of Etiquette for Divine Presence and lack of manners during the supplications to be overly wordy and lengthy and yet just the day before we were aloof away from anything relating to Allah!

Improper conduct and behavior to remember Allah only when in need or in fear.

 

Short Supplications

Best supplication is short supplication:

Most excellent supplication is Al-Hamd-u Li-Llah-i (All perpetual praise and adoration for Allah), said the Prophet.

Best supplication is Al-‘Istighfar (Seeking forgiveness from Allah), said the Prophet.

The Al-‘Istighfar supplication of Moses peace be upon him, short and received immediate reply:

28:16 [And] he (Moses) prayed: O my Sustainer! Verily, I have sinned against myself! FORGIVE ME!” And He/Allah forgave him – for, verily, He/Allh alone is truly forgiving, a dispenser of grace.

قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّي ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي فَغَفَرَ لَهُ إِنَّهُ هُوَ الْغَفُورُ الرَّحِيمُ

 

Prophet was asked by a bedouin to teach him a supplication that Allah might give him some benefit from, Prophet told him to say:

O my Lord for You all praise, and all gratitude for You as well, while all affairs return to you (for judgement and fulfillment)

5097- عن سعد أن أعرابيا قال للنبي صلى الله عليه وسلم: علمني دعاء لعل الله أن ينفعني به، قال قل: اللهم لك الحمد كله، ولك الشكر كله، وإليك يرجع الأمر كله.
